Old Roads: Paths Though Memory.

Some films are favorites. Others become places we return to. For me, one of those places is the 1977 animated The Hobbit.

Music, Movies, and Memories, Oh my...

Music, who knew? Well, everyone, I suppose. Everyone but me, apparently, because this is one of those I was this many years old when I discovered it moments.

When the fall is all there is...

One of my favorite movie scenes of all time is from "The Lion in Winter" (1968) (and 2003 for that matter...) when Geoffrey, Richard, and John are in the dungeon waiting on the king to come for them. They have a little back and forth and Richard is going on about how he is going to meet his death. There is an interchange between them that I really like a lot. It goes like this:

Richard: He'll get no satisfaction out of me. He isn't going to see me beg.
Geoffrey: Why you chivalric fool—as if the way one fell down mattered.
Richard: When the fall is all there is, it matters.

    Movies Redux

moviesIt has been a long time since I posted my top 10 movies list, and I never followed that up with the next 10. Since I posted the original list my tastes have changed a little and my original list would be slightly different now. This second list is so much more difficult than the original. A top 10 is easy, the best of the best, but the second 10? There are so many movies that could be on this list I could easily make all 10 of these tied for 11 and make it 100 movies total. That being said here are 11 through 20 of my favorite movies of all time.

    Escape

As a lifelong fan of sci-fi and fantasy I have been experiencing make-believe worlds and caring for make-believe people for as long as I can remember. There are those who would have me believe this is somehow unhealthy as if entering into these worlds means I am escaping from my own. Maybe I am escaping the real world... but who would blame me with the world the way it is now.

    Mid-Week Miscellany

There are a few things that I wanted to put down on digital paper this week. None of them are long enough for a post on their own but they are on my mind so I wanted to toss them all together and see what happens.

The Hobbit Trilogy: Tolkien? or not?

With the release of The Battle of the Five Armies The Peter Jackson Directed Trilogy of Hobbit movies has been completed. With that completion comes the questions, second-guessing, and complaining that one would expect from such an undertaking.

Best Movies of All Time. The List.

Posting Monday about WarGames and how it's my favorite movie of all time got me thinking. What would be my top ten movies of all time? So I compiled a list and I will share it with you here.

    WarGames 30th Anniversary

I had written this post yesterday but scheduled the publishing incorrectly, so here it is today instead.

Today is June 3rd, 2013. 30 years ago on June 3rd, 1983 a movie was released that would strike a chord with me that would never stop resonating.

WarGames is my favorite movie of all time. I watch it on average once a week and never get tired of it. Sure some of it is nostalgia since it's a movie about a teenage hacker in 1982 when I was also a teenage hacker. The whole movie just screams the '80s and let's face it everyone has a soft spot for the decade they grew up in.
